Creation:

To help Bands, Musicians, artists and songwriters get their original material into the eyes and ears of industry members who have the ability to take their careers to the next level. We asked Reps from Major Labels, Indie Labels and Film Studios to commit to using MusicGorilla.com as a resource. In return, we would build individual pages for them that would automatically display artist material they are specifically looking for. They agreed, as long as we would not ask the artist or themselves for a percentage of their deals. We built it, they came. From that point on, we dedicated ourselves toward providing artists worldwide with opportunity.

Evolution:

We stood behind our guarantee of having our member’s music heard by the Industry Reps. (No, not in house Reps, we don’t pay these guys to listen. They’re here because they’re looking for emerging talent and material. Visit "Who’s Listening".) Our original model was working out fine, yet we wanted to offer more to our members. Here’s what we added:

  • Play it LIVE for the labels!

We started to showcase bands LIVE as well. We fly the industry Rep in, out of pocket, no charge to Artist members. We have already showcased 35 bands to Reps and plan to increase this opportunity each year. Playing your music and receiving reviews from Major label Reps was definitely the way to go!

  • Digital Distribution!

MusicGorilla.com is now an official music provider for the likes of: MSN,  and Loudeye. Your music distributed digitally to MyCokeMusic and MTV throughout the world. Including: UK, France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Spain and more! Our artists getting paid per download across the globe. Score!

  • Television, Film and Video game submissions!

Through our relationships with music supervisors, we now provide our members with FREE unlimited submissions for film, television and video game placement! For the supervisors, we are free from red tape. For our artists, it’s $$ and priceless exposure. What do we get? Musicgorilla.com’s word spread.

Other Freebies:

Ability to be featured on our Gorilla chart, hosting of your band and song pages, Gorilla juke box, message centers with reviews from fans and industry. Gorilla store (Yeah, we handle shipping and stock), free link to link personalized forums, three mp3 uploads, the best customer service anywhere online and so much more.

Are We Bananas ???

Refer four Artist members and we return 100% of your membership fee. It’s our way of rewarding you for spreading the word!

So who’s the Gorilla?

ALEXIA HELFAND, Co-founder

Alexia has worked in the entertainment industry, since she started working. As a student at New York University, she was a producing and business major. She interned at such places as Fox News Channel, Tribeca Productions (Robert DeNiro) and Creative Film Management (commercial production). She also produced the thesis films of several Tisch film students with budgets ranging from $10,000 to $150,000.

After graduating in 1998, she continued her film career. First working at Miramax films, and then freelancing on such films as The Family Man and Someone Like You with Executive Producer Lynda Obst (now a mentor of sorts). After joining Local 161, she worked as the Assistant Production Coordinator on the television show Big Apple. She decided to move away from her hometown of New York City, to the more relaxed environment of Austin, Texas. In Austin, she worked as the Post Production Coordinator on Spy Kids 2 and Once Upon A Time In Mexico with Elizabeth Avellan and Robert Rodriguez.

"Alexia is the hardest working woman in the independent music business!! You are a true soldier of the independent movement and we see your passion for music, and we're proud to be affiliated with Music Gorilla, partially because you're associated with it. Keep up the good work!!" –Darvio Morrow, Untouchable Clique C.E.O.

LAWRENCE ERLICHMAN, Co-founder

Lawrence is what one would call a self made man. He has been an entrepreneur his entire life. He started working for his father in manufacturing and soon left to start his own business: a stationary store in Nyack, New York.

Eventually he sold his store and left New York, to move to the warmer climate of Florida where he worked as a consultant to other entrepreneurs. He helped people get businesses started by giving them ideas, contacts, financing etc. As an investor of sorts, he then learned the complicated and difficult business of day trading. In Austin, TX he earned a living as a day trader for many years.

Lawrence’s interest in music began when he was in his teens when he developed an insatiable appetite for all different kinds of music. He realized that his forte was in business, and in developing Music Gorilla; he created a venture that would allow him to do what he was good at, incorporate his passion for music, and help get exposure for talented bands.

BETH MITCHELL, Co-founder

Beth Mitchell has made a career of being an advocate for people who need a voice. Growing up in Miami, she was always surrounded by music and developed an appreciation for all different types of music at an early age. Her career path led elsewhere, but music remained an important part of her life.

After graduating from The University of Miami, in 1991, with a law degree she started working for an advocacy group for the mentally ill, first in Miami, and then in Texas. Beth moved to Austin, Texas in 1993 and continued her work in law. She has advocated for important changes in the legislature and is well respected in her field.

When Lawrence Erlichman presented her with the idea for Music Gorilla, she was excited to be a part of it. It gave her an outlet for her music passion. She wanted to be involved in Music Gorilla, not as a lawyer, but as an advocate for musicians. She knew many people trying to break into the music industry, and wanted to help them in any way she could. Music Gorilla was the best way to do that.

FRED BLACK, Chief Technology Officer

Fred Black graduated from Elon College in Elon College, NC in 1985 with a degree in Computer Science. Testimonials:

"…I had been on the site about 3 weeks when I received my first email from a Rep. at a record company. I was blown away! I never expected a response that quickly. I LOVE MG! For all you skeptics out there, Music Gorilla does everything they say they will do. The only thing you have to lose is the record label that never heard your music. Blessings to everyone who takes a chance on MG."

"I was not only approached by a member of Sony Music Group at the showcase, but have been speaking with him on a regular basis now over two months. He is very interested in the band, and he saw us because of Music Gorilla. Are you promised a deal??? No, but will doors open….Yes!!"

Aaron

guitarist for "Backlit Revolver".

"…My band has been heard by A&R approximately a dozen times in 3 months. Additionally, Music Gorilla sponsors nationwide showcases in which at least one A&R representative will be in attendance. I have yet to find any other website who can provide the opportunity for you to showcase your music live to the industry. As an artist you get personal attention from Music Gorilla personnel… The service is unbeatable and in my opinion there is no better method out there to promote your band."

Tish Meeks, lead singer for "3 kisses"
