Music Gorilla Showcase Alumni

June 13th, 2015 by

We first met Rachel Platten when she played our Music Gorilla showcases at a small venue in Austin TX called Treasure Island (now Burnside’s Tavern), recently we clicked on a video taken from Taylor Swift’s concert in Philadelphia where she called Rachel up to the stage to perform her hit song “Fight Song”. It was a surreal moment for us – we can’t imagine what it felt like for her! In Austin, people were appreciative of her spirited, original songs and the energy she brought with her to the stage. Not every show can be a prime time, packed house but Rachel brought the energy of performing at Radio City to our venue on 6th street. It was likely her spirit, along with her innate songwriting ability that ultimately caught the attention of A&R reps at Columbia records who signed Rachel.

She now has a hit single in the song “Fight Song” a relatable, anthem that has been in the Billboard top 50 for several weeks and as of today the number 3 most downloaded song on iTunes. People identify with the song relating their own struggles and the song carries a powerful and positive message to keep going, regardless of the uphill battle you may be facing.

Josh Beech was also at MusicGorilla.com’s Austin showcases that year. He came over from London to play his inimitable style of songwriting with the crowd at SXSW, who definitely appreciated it!

Josh has a low key approach to life and this comes across in his music. His style is all his own though and this can be heard in his voice and lyrics.

Josh was signed to Virgin/EMI in the UK and Universal Music Group in Germany.

And you can see Josh playing the Music Gorilla Showcase here (we’ll apologize in advance about the recording quality, as it was done with a phone):

Beautiful Bodies were one of the most popular bands we’ve showcased. They played to a packed house. They were on the floor, on the bar, and outside the venue entirely, putting on one of the most energetic shows we’ve seen. They are an incredibly hard working band, which can be seen by their tour schedule and fan interaction. Recognizing this, they were signed to Epitaph Records – we think they’re a great match and can’t wait to see what happens.

Here’s Beautiful Bodies at the MG showcase:

Over the years, we’ve showcased over 700 artists and bands at various events – from Major Label showcases in NYC to our showcases in Austin. We wanted to share a few of these successes with you. We offer opportunities for artists to grow and hone their skills and be seen by people who can offer them guidance and advice.

Our next showcase event is September 9th, 2015 in NYC at The Bowery Electric.
